New Dundalk Cricket Club

This summer a group of immigrants started playing cricket on a disused site near the old Dundalk Shopping Centre. Former members of Crusaders Cricket Club, which existed in Dundalk until the early 1990's, became aware of this and an approach was made to Noel Redmond (County Sports and Recreation Officer0 and he explored the possibility of setting up a Club.

Noel organised and facilitated a meeting on Sept.7th and a good attendance-a mix of young immigrants and older ex Crusaders' members-turned up. Matt Sheirdan (President) and Brian O'Rourke (Development Officer) of the Leinster Cricket Union also attended and gave very helpful advice. It was decided to form a committee with a view to drawing up a Constituation, applying for membership of the Leinster Union and procuring proper playing facilities.

At a subsequent meeting officers were elected and we are now in the process of meeting schools and collages to introduce cricket to them and discuss developing a pitch.

Although initially named Dundalk Cricket Club, we hope to spread its appeal through out the County and eventually form a Louth C.C.

We are organising an Open Day for a Sunday in November and will post details when it is finialised.

We are grateful to Noel Redmond and Mary Brown (Louth Sports Partnership) for their valued assistance in forming the Club.
